Several experiments in the last decade have demonstrated  the enormous potential of Time Reversed Acoustics (TRA) and Ultrasonics (TRUS) for applications in  many fields, such as medicine, materials  characterization and oceanography. However, the  influence of mode-conversion in solids on the  efficiency of TRUS has still to be understood.  In the present contribution, we demonstrate the  applicability of the Local Interaction Simulation  Approach to simulate, by means of virtual  experiments, both linear and non linear TRUS and  to reproduce all the relevant features of this  technique (both for focusing of elastic energy  and defects localization). Also, well show the  potential of numerical simulations for the  optimization of experimental procedures.
