Unlike to the classical hyperbolic shock waves, pressure waves in porous media are usually parabolic. There are several kinds of physical systems when such pressure waves can occur: filtration combustion, shock tubes experiments with liquid-filled porous media, explosive boiling of sub-heated liquids inside high-power heaters with porous covering. The structure and dynamics of the pressure waves within porous media are studied experimentally both in the shock tubes and in the heaters. Theoretical studied was focused on the derivation of governing equations for the pressure wave propagation, simulation of the main processes and proper interpretation of the experimental results in porous beds under impulse loading.
